The Kalabis wind quintet was founded by students of the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 2012 under the guidance of Prof. Štěpán Koutník. The quintet members devote themselves to chamber music under the direction of professors and players of leading Czech Orchestras and Ensembles. In the autumn of 2013, the quintet collaborated with Czech Television on the filming of a music education documentary for children entitled “The Philharmonic on the Street”. In August 2014, the ensemble took part in the International Summer Academy in Austria, where it won two first prizes in the “Viktor Kalabis” and “Czech Contemporary Music” competitions. Part of the award was a performance at a gala concert at the ORF in Vienna. The quintet won the 1st prize and the laureate title at the Karl Ditters Dittersdorf competition in Vidnava and also accepted an invitation to perform as guest of International Clarimania courses in Wroclaw, Poland. They are laureates at the 8th International Quintet Competition in Marseille which took place in February 2015.
